EXHIBITION:  The Alice Look

2nd May – 1st November

V & A Museum of Childhood

Cambridge Heath Road

London

E2 9PA

To mark the 150th anniversary of the star character of Lewis Carrols’ ‘Alice’s Adverntures in Wonderland’, the V&A museum of childhood is putting together an exhibition exploring how Alice has both followed and influenced fashion over the decades.  It will include garments, photographs, rare editions and illustrations as well as modern interpretations such as Annie Liebowitz's photographs for US Vogue and pop videos from Gwen Stefani, Avril Lavigne and Aerosmith and a brand new commission by Roksanda pattern-cutter Josie Smith.

EATING: Edible Stories

The Library

112 St. Martin's Lane

London, WC2N 4AZ

1 – 7 May 2015: Les Miserables

8 - 15 May 2015: Matilda

After visiting The Alice Look why not carry on with the theme and book a table at members club Library. They are holding a pop up culinary experience until 17th May called Edible Stories.

Edible Stories is a four week theatrical inspired food pop-up. Each week it will pay tribute to a classic production - Les Miserables, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and The Phantom of The Opera – with the menu uniquely created and presented in comic book form by Neil Gibson to tell the story of the pop up and collaboration.

This carefully curated and themed dining experience promises to take some of the greatest written stories and bring them to life exclusively through the use of food. The play is broken down throughout the meal and presented as various edible courses. The food, your interaction with it, the interaction with the people at the table with you, and your environment will allow you to pull together the clues and gradually uncover the story.

Before you think you can’t go because you’re not a member – this event is open to the public too! So you get to have snoop inside the members cub too….

Here’s a little reminder of one of their classics

ALTERNATIVE: Canalway Cavalcade

Little Venice

2-4th May

We <3 London’s canals!  And on May bank holiday every year the pretty waterways of Little Venice get even better with this annual gathering of canal boats.   Around 130 boats will be moored along the stretch of the Grand Union Canal between Blomfield Road, Warwick Avenue and Warwick Crescent for the Canalway Cavalcade, which has taken place every year since 1983. Many of the waterborne homes will be dressed up to the nines ready for the pageant, and visitors can expect plenty of quintessentially British fun including morris dancers and a real ale tent. There'll also be trade stalls, live music, children's activities and refreshments. Let’s hope the sun comes out again, but if it doesn’t it will just make it an even more British affair. Ships ahoy!
