A chat with Aidan Saunders founder of Print Wagon

We caught up with Adian Saunders to find out a little bit more about him and what he's been up to. Aidan is an Illustrator and Printmaker, Currently working on 'The Print Wagon' a printmaking tour of Britain straight out the back of a vw caddy.

How did you get into the industry?

I got into the industry through Print Wagoning which I started while in university as a scheme to promote my illustration. The irony is that I'm more known for Print Wagon than illustration.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by lots of things , old show posters, 50's - 70's packaging and toys. Uhmm I suppose you can call me a collector of just things that catch my eye, usually beautifully printed odds and sods like old cigarette cards or vintage magazines.

How would you describe your style?

Uhmm I'd describe myself as having a bold and almost clumsy style, I like to include a lot of the imperfections while making the work into the final piece to give it more of an edge which I find more 'approachable' to an observer. I try to make it look like a human has made it.

What projects are you currently working on?

I am writing an educational illustration book where I am travelling around illustrators studios and interviewing them and getting their views on the industry and what it was like getting to where they are now.

I am exhibiting with the Brighton illustration Fair in May, and some other fairs (which I am not allowed to mention yet)

I am touring universities giving lectures and I have also got a few commissions.

Have you got any new projects in the pipeline?

I have a few 4 colour reduction linos coming out which are called 'be more than a man with Charles Atlas' , 'The death defying aero rodeo' and as for linos to print from the press I make nearly 1 a week, I find it very cathartic.

How/ where can the public purchase your products?

You can either visit me in my Print Wagon, where and when I am exhibiting I post on Twitter: @printwagon or Instagram: print_wagon_

Or I have an online shop: www.print-wagon.com

You can also see a few of Aidan's prints in our room set for Grand Designs Live this May, including this Lucky Catch print:
